Academic excellence

Although league tables and teaching and research assessments can only scratch the surface of what student life is really about, our consistently high position in many of the annual university league tables does reflect the University’s deserved reputation for academic excellence.

Our tutors and lecturers are passionate about the subjects they teach, and many are widely published and respected within academic circles. Coupled with state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, our teaching is rated top of the class. Excellence is evident in the fact that 39 subjects have been awarded ratings of between 22 and 24 in teaching assessments conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency over the past ten years.

Undoubtedly, our students are the essential ingredient of our academic success and we find our students are very happy with what they get at Nottingham – in the National Students Survey, they rated their overall satisfaction with Nottingham at 87 per cent. Furthermore, once students get into Nottingham they are very unlikely to leave – in the latest national statistics Nottingham had one of the best records in the country for students continuing on their course.

We aim to attract students who are determined to do the best for themselves and we welcome applications from suitably qualified students from all backgrounds. We are committed to a fair admissions process that provides equal opportunities for all applicants.

Nottingham is a university that consistently invests in and develops its potential – approximately £50 million will be invested in buildings, equipment and staff between 2005-7.
