“Go and see your tutors during their office hours about coursework, exams or even just to see how you’re doing – these
meetings really are helpful.”
“A few of my English teachers had studied at Nottingham and recommended the University to me. I decided to check it out and found that it had a good reputation. But it was visiting the University that sold it to me – I fell in love with the beautiful campus! Coming from London, I found The University of Nottingham had just the right mix of city life and a different environment.
The course looked really interesting – it covered many different areas and wasn’t just your typical literature and language English course. If anything, it has exceeded my expectations. I’m really enjoying it and have done ever since the first year.
The teaching is one of the greatest strengths of the School of English Studies. The staff engage with the students and their expertise in various fields is clearly evident. I also enjoy the diversity of my course: drama as a performance medium; literature across a great expanse of time; English language and its relation to culture and society; and medieval English literature and language. I’m never bored and always find myself walking out of lectures and seminars having learnt something new and remarkable.
Nottingham offers a wealth of opportunities and experiences and last year I was involved with University Radio Nottingham (URN), the University’s award-winning radio station, as a producer for one of the weekly evening shows. This year, I’m involved with writing for the University’s Impact magazine and have recently wrapped my first fashion shoot with the style section.
One of the benefits of this degree is that you develop a great deal of transferable skills. It’s almost inevitable that graduates of a degree where you are required to voice your opinions; give presentations; respond to critical work; analyse texts; communicate effectively in essays and exams; and develop coherent arguments in seminars and coursework, are very much sought after by employees.”
