“Study abroad! It’s one of the best opportunities you’ll have to live in
another country.”
“The opportunities to study abroad attracted me to Nottingham. Also, I wasn’t able to attend an open day as I live overseas but the admissions tutor who showed me around was very welcoming.
I think I enjoy my course even more than I thought I would, which is a nice feeling! There are some absolutely fantastic lecturers who really engage the students and are very enthusiastic about what they’re teaching.
The facilities are good too – there’s lots of lab space and the library facilities are excellent, with plenty of books, interactive-learning screens, a laptop-hire service and rooms you can book out for group study.
I’ve enjoyed my modules in environmental chemistry because
it’s especially relevant at the minute and includes a lot of upto-
date research. I also like the biological chemistry modules
as it’s an area I’m interested in. You look at how the body
works and think “wow, all these things are going on inside me
that I didn’t know about!”
For my International Study Year, I went to the University of Melbourne. It was nice to experience being taught in a different way and I met lots of new people.Joining societies is another good way to meet people – I’ve been involved with canoe polo, korfball and St John Ambulance and I’m the Social Secretary for Nottingham University Study Abroad and Exchange Society.
I lived in halls in my first year and it was really nice not to have to worry about cooking or cleaning. Plus, there were lots of opportunities to make friends and try new things out.I’ve been to a few careers talks about chemistry. For some of them, chemistry graduates came back to say what they’re doing now and how they got into it, which was useful. They’ve gone into a variety of different things, like cancer research, teaching and forensic science.”
