“Remember there’s always
support available from your tutor and
module leaders.”
“Initially, I considered Nottingham because it had a good reputation. Then when I attended the open day, I liked the layout and atmosphere of the campus. I was also able to speak to lecturers and current students about the structure of the course and the variety of teaching and assessment methods (exams and practical work) appealed to me.
My experience of Nottingham has been that the teaching is well-organised and it’s delivered at the right pace. Also, there’s a big medical library, a general library on University Park and lots of computers to support your learning. A variety of practice placements give you a taste of different areas of nursing, such as in-patient care and community care. If you want to experience working in prisons and drug and alcohol clinics, you can put your name forward for placements there too.
One of my favourite modules has been Care Delivery and Management, which was about the care of adults in the community – I found it really interesting to learn about delivering patient care outside of a hospital setting. I also enjoyed Trauma, Critical Care and Oncology and gained a lot from the practice placement.
Apart from learning about nursing, I’ve also become more confident about presenting information, both on paper and verbally, and about communicating with a wide range of people. The course is what you make of it – if you put in a lot, you’ll get a lot out.”
