“The University had excellent results in my subject which is what first attracted me to apply. When I discovered the beautiful green spaces on campus, I knew for sure this was where I wanted to study. The Department of Theology has a high concentration of world-leading researchers and exciting modules and for me, the literature and philosophical elements of the course were particularly important in deciding on Nottingham. The teaching has been of an extremely high quality and the work has been challenging and diverse. Teachers are accessible, materials are readily available and being able to drop in and talk to a lecturer really assists with your studies. Most of all, I like the small, informal lecture sizes. These permit you to debate or ask questions in the lectures without feeling intimidated.
My favourite modules have been Religion and Literature and Religion and Fantasy. Both these modules encompass literary theology which I am extremely interested in. They cover the middle ground between theology and English literature, meaning that the study becomes less biblically rooted and more literary.
I plan to study at a postgraduate level here at Nottingham doing a masters degree and possibly further study, with a view to pursuing a career in the civil service or as a lobbyist. I think my degree has given me an excellent set of transferable skills including debating and logical deduction. I have also been taught how to present a line of reasoning effectively and have developed an appreciation of how inter-faith dialogue may take place.
In my spare time I am heavily involved with both Musicality and the New Theatre. I love theatre and Nottingham provides the most amazing opportunities to follow your passion for acting and to meet a huge and really varied group of friends. I cannot recommend the theatre highly enough.”
