"Make the most of your time at university because it passes by very quickly!”
“I’m from Germany but I have an English friend who told me about The University of Nottingham and how good it is. When I did some more research, I liked the range of modules you could choose from.
The course has definitely lived up to my expectations and over the last two years, I’ve learned so much about filmmaking and the film industry. I’ve even had the chance to work on a small-budget feature film that was shot on campus.
The tutors here are friendly and helpful and create a good learning atmosphere. I really like the fact that we have a virtual filming room and a screening room in the Hallward Library, too. My favourite module so far has been Video Production as it’s very hands-on and we get to make a short film. Approaches to Film and Television, which we took in the first year, was interesting as it included a section on the production and development of films.
Another highlight has been my internship in Hollywood. Students in the School of American and Canadian Studies, which includes the Institute of Film and Television Studies, can apply for one of three internships. I was successful and spent last summer working at Fox Searchlight, which is the arty arm of 20th Century Fox. I loved it!
Outside of my course, I’ve been the Vice-President of the Filmmaking Society and am still an active member. We do things like make short films and teach any student who wants to learn how to use cameras. I’ve also just finished a training course to be a mentor to first-year students.”
