"Try to go to all your lectures and don't rely on friends' notes - it can be hard to catch up."

Course: Computer Science and Management Studies (second year)

“I was attracted to the University because it seemed like a nice environment in which to study, and it is based in a good sized-city. The exchange programmes and international links sounded interesting, and the Students’ Union had lots of societies. When I came here, I really liked the campus. Jubilee Campus, where I’m studying, is very modern.

I enjoy my course because it’s got a good balance between computer science and management – it’s half and half. Also, I like the fact that you can choose modules from a large range. One of my favourites was Algorithmic Problem Solving, which was about how to develop a strategy when you’re playing games like chess.

The staff at Nottingham are really helpful – you can go to their office and they’re always there to answer questions and help with coursework. In terms of facilities, the libraries have all the books you need for your course, and there are always computers free.

I’ve joined lots of societies, including the French, German, Japanese and Photography Societies, which have helped me meet people from other courses. Nottingham is a good city to be in too because it’s big, but not too big.

When I graduate, I’d like to go on to do a masters degree or get a job in finance, banking or software engineering. My course has given me a knowledge of business and mathematical programming skills. I think it prepares students really well for finding work.”
