"Make the effort to meet people throughout your time at Nottingham, not just in the first few weeks."
“I was initially attracted to the University by the statistics in the league table and their record for graduate employment. I also needed to know that I would be supported in my career of rowing for Great Britain and that there would be good sports facilities.
One of the best things about this course is the flexibility it allows. Due to the array of options available, it’s easy to tailor your degree to your interests and needs; this was useful as mine changed over time. My favourite module so far has been Tourism and the Environment because of its real-time relevancy and wider impact, and also because of the support from staff.
The staff in the Business School have been brilliant. Whenever I’ve had questions I could go to them and they’ve always been willing to help. The University has also supported my rowing by granting me a sports bursary and keeping track of my developments. Due to the commitment level of my sport I’ve had to miss some exams, but I contacted the Academic Support Team, and was able to sit them later.
Since coming to Nottingham, I’ve tried new things such as singing in the gospel choir, playing in netball teams and hill walking, and have also had the chance to keep up things I already enjoyed, such as going to church.
When I leave Nottingham, I’ll be going into the army but I’m glad I did management studies because the skills and knowledge will stand me in good stead.”
