"Be prepared to work hard but enjoy your time at university. Keep a happy balance between socialising and work."

Course: Pharmacy (second year)

“I live locally and wanted to study near home and as Nottingham has a great reputation and is one the top universities for pharmacy, it was an easy choice.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of the course is the Physiology and Pharmacology module – not only does it build on A level knowledge, it also develops an understanding of how different drugs act on the human body. Weekly practical classes bring variety to the course; they perfect chemistry and pharmaceutical techniques and offer a better understanding of the practicality of pharmacy.

Although the course is challenging, the staff are friendly and always offer their help and advice. In addition, it’s easy to form friendships on the pharmacy course and you never feel like you’re on your own. There is also the chance to join the pharmacy sporting clubs. I played netball through the Pharmacy Society and found it a great way to socialise and meet more experienced pharmacy students.

Once I have graduated, I may either go into hospital or community pharmacy. At the moment, I have a job at a hospital which I got through the University; not only does the School inform you of current pharmacy jobs, the staff offer lots of help on the summer placements available. Experience within pharmacy is always key as it helps you gain a better idea of what work is involved, whether it be in hospital, community or industry setting.

Nottingham is a lively, busy city and a great place to live. Its wide variety of nightlife and fantastic shopping makes Nottingham a great place to live as well as study. I would recommend it to any prospective student wishing to study pharmacy.”
