"Get to as many galleries as you can so you can put it all into practice."
“I visited Nottingham on an open day and felt completely at home. It’s a really welcoming place and the city too. Nottingham seemed a very exciting city with so much to do, but not so big that you feel you’re not part of it.
I’m really enjoying my course, particularly because it’s allowed me to specialise in the areas I find interesting. The support that you need is there, and the tutors are always there to guide you, but you can be independent, too.
In second year, there’s a compulsory trip abroad and we went to Paris and looked at galleries like the Centre Pompidou, the Louvre and the Palais de Tokyo. It’s a chance to get out there and put everything you’ve learned into practice.
My favourite modules have included Installation Art, and American Realist Art and another that introduces you to sculpture. I love contemporary art – it really excites me. The modules are well taught and by the end you feel confident that you have a good grasp of what you’ve studied. The lectures make it fun too, because they include slides and lots of presentations.
I’ve been able to get a job at Djanogly Art Gallery, in the University’s Lakeside Arts Centre, which is great experience for anyone doing my course. After I graduate, I’m looking into teaching and applying to do a PGCE. I can’t emphasise enough how this course has benefited me; as well as teaching me about the subject, it’s helped me develop presentation and organisational skills and increased my confidence. It’s been so valuable. I’ve got such a love for my subject and this course has only made me want to study it more.”
