What is an occasional student?

You can apply to be an occasional student. This usually usually involves you coming to The University of Nottingham for either one or two semesters (two semesters is a whole academic year).

Is there a deadline to apply?

There is no deadline as such you just need to allow plenty of time for the paperwork to be completed and your modules to be approved before your chosen semester begins.

Which schools offer the opportunity to study as an occasional student?

There are a number of schools within the University for which it is not possible such as the Business School and the School of English Studies. If you are interested in applying please contact a member of the Admissions Office on 0115 951 4749 in the first instance.

Who can apply to be an occasional student?

If you are a UK or EU applicant you can apply directly to the Admissions Office using the occasional student application form.

If you are an international student or would like to take part in the Socrates - Erasmus, Universitas 21 or Study Abroad schemes please contact the International Office for further details.

How much does it cost to study as an occasional student?

The cost will be calculated for the period of time that you are studying. The yearly fee for a UK/EU student for 2010 is £3,290 (one year, full time). For further queries please contact

How can I find out which modules are available?

Please look in the online module catalaogue.

Will I be entitled to accommodation?

You will not be guaranteed University accommodation. The Accommodation Office will be able to support you in finding accommodation in the private sector.

Can I use the library?

You will be able to use and access all the facilities as a normal student does such as the library, Students' Union, gym.
